Bruges is one of the places I had Google image searched long before we even planned together, drooling over the beautiful photos and dreaming of the day I'd get to see the sights in person. I was so excited to arrive, and Bruges didn't disappoint. The whole time we were there, I didn't stop saying how gorgeous it was and how happy I was to be there. The city is full of canals and bridges - they call it the Venice of the North. One thing that made it really stand out for me is that every old city in Europe has an old town square with some pretty old buildings, but Bruges is more old than new. You can walk around the city for hours and it is all old and beautiful. The only drawback is the number of tourists. The streets are very narrow and the sidewalks even more so, so sometimes you get stuck in a hoard of people not moving as quickly as you'd like. We were there in between low and high season, and I would never want to be there in the high.

There is a lot to see and do in Bruges. We did a night walking tour with a very energetic guide, showing us all the famous sights and a bit of cool history. We visited many chocolate shops and indulged in many street waffles - yum! We climbed the belfry in the Market Square, which involved a very narrow and curving staircase all the way up 366 steps, giving us beautiful views of the square and spires all around. We also went on a boat tour, which Nick wasn't too keen on but I thought was worth it. There are lots of white swans living in the canals! Overall, Bruges was absolutely one of my favourite places on our whole trip - pretty high praise, I think.
