While in Munich, we took a day trip outside the city to a place called Fussen, which is home to a very famous castle, called Neuschwanstein. It's quite an elaborate castle, which we ended up going on a tour of, and almost as elaborate as the castle, is the story of how King Ludwig II died. It's one of the great murder mysteries of all time, and there is no way I can re-tell the story with the same kind of drama and intrigue of our excellent guide, Curt. There are so many baffling twists and turns in the tale of the King's death it will leave your head spinning. Did he kill himself? Did his family have him killed? Was his death just an accidental drowning? It's a touchy subject with some people in Germany, but if you like murder mysteries, read up on his, because it is one for the ages... unfortunately you'll be left with an unresolved ending. The castle was also believed to be the inspiration for Walt Disney's magic kingdom.
Also, if you take the train, you travel past a lot of farms, where there seem to be an excessive number of cats in the fields. Strange, but true.
