Chris was off again today so we decided it would be a good idea to hike out to Apex, the community just outside of Iqaluit. We knew we had about a 5km walk ahead of us, so we dressed in our many layers as previous experience outside had told us. Unfortunately, we guessed a little wrong as the sun here can actually be quite strong once the clouds move out. More than anything, we unfortunately forgot the bug spray. Who would have thought mosquitoes would like Iqaluit so much? After all the bites we got today, I don't think either one of us will make that mistake again.

There are two ways into Apex, the road and the trail by the water. Naturally, we opted for the scenic route along the shore. It was quite bumpy and rocky but absolutely beautiful. The hike in definitely took longer than necessary since we stopped so many times to take pictures. Since we still don't really know how to use our camera properly, each shot also took a million times longer since we had to try different options in the hopes that one of them would be right. All suggestions about taking better pictures are gladly welcomed!

Once we got there, we took a quick peek at the original Hudson's Bay Company buildings, which have been there for over 60 years and played with the cutest dog in the world on the beach for a bit. This was the second husky mix puppy we saw today, and we were both in heaven. Sooo cute! Anyway, once we got in we figured we would grab a quick bite to eat and head back to Iqaluit. No such luck, nothing there but housing. It was really starting to warm up by this point and we were both thirsty and hungry so we decided to head back.

We decided we would take the road back to Iqaluit, another decision today we very quickly regretted. The road from Apex to Iqaluit is nothing but straight up hill. It just kept going up, and up, and up. I have absolutely no idea how I made it back. We had walked around 12km in total today, half of it up a giant, freaking hill. With the distances we're covering each day I will be doing a marathon in no time!
