We left Switzerland on a rainy Sunday which we soon realized was a great day to drive on the motorways due to the prohibition of truck traffic in Germany on a Sunday. That night we found a charming small hotel in mid-Germany and had an excellent meal in their thriving restaurant. We have found Germany to offer very good food at good value – you never get up from a meal in Germany feeling hungry and their beer is excellent. We had a wonderful re-union the following afternoon with our dear friends, Deiter and Gunda whom we had met in Denmark last year whilst we were both sailing. We stayed with them for a night at their house in the small village of Heikendorf, near Kiel but returned later for Kieler Wocha in mid-June.
