Geoffrey and I decided to take the weekend off from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok and head out into the country. Our destination was Mission College. This was a last min. trip so we quickly packed and jumped on the skytrain to Victory monument station. We were told that from this stop we needed to transit to a van that would take us the rest of the way. When we got out of the skytrain to our surprise it was raining cats and dogs. It rains quite frequently here but we always seem not to remember an umbrella. I had Geoffrey hold all our stuff including the electronics and I went plunging around in the streets. I tried to stay dry but no more than a minute later I was soaked from head to toes including my socks. There must have been 300 vans all going to different parts of the country and so I started with one and went to the other. My Thai at this point was very limited, but it is because of situations like these that one learns how to speak the language.
I was so fed up so I called my friend who gave us the directions handed the phone to the closest nice person I saw and the next thing I knew we were being personally guided to the write van.
My next hurdle to jump was the fact that I was still really wet and I had a 3 hour van drive with the AC involuntarily on high. So I knew I had to change. The Thai are very comfortable with this kind of thing. They usually just look at us foreigners as funny, but I was worried about what the two other foreigners would think that were sitting right in front of us. So I kindly explained the situation and cautioned them to not let their eyes wonder and I proceeded to change and get dry.
The most funny thing about this is that the gentlemen in front of me I later found out that he was the president of the college and the lady is named Sam who became our first friend at Mission college. So I guess this friendship will have a great starting off story to tell.

We arrived very late on Friday evening but Sam invited us to go with some of her friends out to eat. So we all hoped on motorcycles and off we went. Both Geoffrey and i agreed that the food just a couple hours out of Bangkok was completely different and it gave us much curiosity about the food in the rest of Thailand.

The next morning Sam showed the way to the Cafeteria for breakfast. I still cannot get over the fact that the Thai eat the same type of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is not uncommon to find fried rice with curry on the breakfast menu.

Then we took a tour around the gorgeous jungle campus. Out of all of the many Adventist campuses in the world that I have been on I must say that Mission college is the most beautiful.

At mission college church they hold church service at 9 o'clock to 1015. than sabbath school by age and language till 1115 than they break up even smaller for lesson study. Well I heard from Sam that one of the lesson studies was in Spanish. When I heard that I shot off like a rocket to find my Spanish amigos. There they were. I sat down and the teacher said to me, "Oh I am sorry this is the Spanish lesson study the English is over there." This is not the first time that this has happened to me and in fact I quite love it. I replied "Si ja lo se. Gracias." (Oh yes I already know that) He smiled and then like always I explained why I could speak Spanish.
Anyways It was like I was back in central California campmeeting in the early morning Spanish meetings. There were people from all over including Mexico and Argentina. Of course I am partial towards the Argentine.  It wasn't until someone next to me addressed my in Thai that I realized that I had drifted off the Asian continent and was soaring high above Latin America.

After the lesson I made it a point to get to know the Argentine couple that sat next to me and talk with the four Mexican girls I saw. We exchanged information and I knew I would talk to them again.
Potluck was amazing like always and after that we all took sabbath naps.
When night fall came We all hoped on motorcycles and took off into town to have a nice dinner. The group of friends that went were from all over the place. We all had such a great time exchanging cultural information and getting know each other better.
I must say that the friends there are amazing and that my weekend in Mission college was spiritually rejuvenating.
