Day 24
Bob, the Englishman living in Belgium and running bus tours to the Somme, zig-zagged us across Belgium and France.
An emotional and uplifting day where we followed in the footsteps of those who fought on the Western Front. At the end of the day we stood on the highest point in the Somme, Poziere, and Mouquet Farm, where Australian infantrymen fought to hold back the German forces.
At this point he found for us, a shell fragment that had been lying on the ground for almost100years. What a memory to bring home.
Today followed the night before where we stood at the Menin Gates listening to the last post and a bagpipe solo by a highland marching band. Tears in our eyes.
