We spent two nights in Nagasaki, the last stop on our southern trip. Nagasaki is a beautiful city. It is in a bit of a valley surrounded by mountains on three sides, and a port on the last side. You usually can see mountains every where you look, and it is one of the most naturally beautiful spots we have been too. It also had one of the best transportation systems we have seen. This was largely due to Nagasaki's small size (440,000+ people). We bought all day streetcar passes for $5 each, and had no trouble getting everywhere we wanted to go.
We stayed in a nice hotel, ten minutes walking from the station. We visited the Atomic bomb museum and memorials, two shrines, the wharf, Glover Gardens, the observation hill, and a flea market. It was a very nice end to our travels.
