Nothing much to say about this, but it was shocking at first to learn that there was no “Halloween” in South Africa. I would have thought that there’d be at least some sales of costumes in the malls but really… there wasn’t much.

One of my friends did invite me to a Halloween party, their first Halloween party ever actually and
they are 22/23 years old! It was a lot of fun. All of the girls were witches (including myself) and once people realized I was an American they kept asking me if it looked like a real Halloween party in the U.S. haha. I must say, they did a nice job turning oranges into mini pumpkins, but there were no Jack O’Lanterns !

I later learned that a few elementary schools hosted a Halloween party for the children and parents. No Halloween makes sense in many ways though in SA; for example, it’s a very big inconvenience that they have gates and walls around the houses. The children can’t just walk up and ring the
doorbell. In the black locations it would be 100% unsafe as well, not to mention lack of money to purchase candy. It would be total chaos in the streets.

Anyway, just an interesting fact!  :)
