We had a leisurely morning, packed our things needed for our trip to India. We departed Randy's home at 15:00 to catch our 18:25 flight. All went well as we passed through security and customs. We boarded the Jet Airways flight with the flight departing on time and arrived in Delhi at 22:30 Delhi time, right on schedule. We then went through Indian immigration and customs with no problems.
Randy has a friend and former co-worker named Branko who provided us with a car and a driver to transfer us to a hotel in Delhi. The first hotel we went to, The City Inn, turned out to be a dump of a place in a slummy area. When we arrived, the night manager on duty was sleeping in the bed of the room that he was proposing we stay in. We refused that choice. We then go the driver to take us to a couple more hotels and we finally selected one that was marginal at best, in addition to being way overpriced. At this time of night, we were not in much of a position to bargain, and the manager of the hotel sensed that and took full advantage of our predicament.
