Hi everyone, sorry that I haven't written in a while, for the last two weeks I could be found hiding under a pile of textbooks, trying to keep up with school and producing papers. The good news is that my second class is now over, and as of this morning I am starting in on the third class from my program.
Right after my last entry it was International peace Day, and the Peace Education department was asked to organize a ceremony for the university. We had the dean speak and put together a musical act with classmates who played the guitar and trumpet and the rest of us who sang (a.k.a. "The freaky Eddys). It was great fun and the students who attended helped us decorate peace flags that were hung up around the university.
Last week Stela and I got a new roommate. If anyone wants to call here and a guy answers, don't think it's the wrong number and hang up. It's nice to have someone else in the big apartment, and as of yet it seems that we're all going to get along really well. Last weekend I went out with him to Macondo's, which has become the unofficial Upeace campus bar. It's an interesting site seeing students of all different ages, races, sexes and speaking with different accents partying it up at the bar. We joke that our vision of a more peaceful world can become a reality and is a reality evenings at Macondo's.
Saturday there was an earthquake here. It was incredibly strange, I was lying in bed and could feel the frame of the bed wobbling as if someone was yanking it, trying to move it. No worries, the building I'm living it is made of cement and because we're on top of a pediatrics clinic there are certain rules they had to follow when constructing it that make it very safe. Apparently earthquakes are super common here, and this probably won't be the only one I will feel this year.
Also my landlords came over this weekend to check up on us. They are adorable, they wanted to make sure the new couch had arrived and was what they had ordered, a great couch which now allows us to seat five people in the living room! It's very exciting news
Finally, last night was one of the guy's in my program's 26th birthday, and our resident T.A. volunteered his house to throw Kevin a party. It was great fun, and really gave everyone a chance to bond in an informal setting. Saturday another of my classmates is having a potluck, hopefully we will continue to all become close.
The pictures I included this week are from the brunch we had at our professor's place a few weeks ago, but she just sent us the pictures and one photo from Kevin's birthday last night.
I'm curious about who is actually reading this blog, if you get a chance to sign the guestbook or leave a comment it would be appreciated! I'll try to be more diligent about writing, and will be in touch soon,
Brigid

There is a crumb on my table
Hey girl

Really I am reading every single entry you make and digesting every word but some of it sounds a little familiar. I don't know why....
However, it is still fun to read so keep it up.
Love ya

Hello there. The "someone" reading this entry now is considering the Peace Education program, and found your blog through searching around for that. I couldn't imagine a better illustration of what the program is like than your writing and photos - thank you very much for taking the time to write (and making it available on the web).

Hello, I am also considering applying to UPEACE and am very grateful for your blog! Thanks for sharing!
