School started this week, so far so good. The lectures were interesting, and our seminar group is made up of 20 people from different disciplines and different parts of the world. It was interesting discussing different conflict theories with people who have lived through war, or who speak about wars in their countries that most North Americans, me included, have never heard about. I spent most of the week in awe, simply listening to stories and trying to absorb everyone experience. On Thursday, just when things were starting to seem normal, and the winding bus ride up and down the mountain was no longer so foreign we had a bit of a weird experience. An ox had escaped from one of the coffee plantations in El Rodeo, near the university (the use oxes to plough the field) and he proceeded to sit in the middle of the road, blocking the bus, for about ten minutes. Farmers came out and were trying to get him off the road, and someone actually tied a rope to him and tried to pull him off, but apparently and ox is a very strong animal, and if they don't want to move, they don't. After about ten minutes of shouting and pleading and honking and kids climbing on it, the animal finally decided to move, and we continued down the road.
Yesterday (Saturday) I spent the day in San Jose and San Pedro, trying desperately to find an agenda, which I finally found, and I bought myself the cutest reading light for my apartment. My roomate,s boyfriend arrived last night from the U.S., so we spent some time with him, and last night the Natural Ressource and Sustainable Development department threw a party for all of the new students. Great fun was had by all, about 60 people showed up and it was nice to get a chance to see people in a less formal setting.
Today is a study day, I have a paper due tomorrow and about 150 pages of reading, which should be lots of fun. Hope everyone had a great week, I will write again soon!

p.s. I am cheating -- the pictures Im putting up are actually from orientation last week, I promised to take picture of my apartment and I will. My internet should be functional within the next day (thats a whole other story) and when it is uploading pictures will be a bit easier.

Wow, all this sounds fantastic! I'm very happy that you are out there, doing something that makes you happy. Can't wait to read more!

An ox
Ok, seriously an ox was blocking the bus from passing? I think that is one of the craziest things I have ever heard. Mind you I live just passed an industrial area so really I barely see any animals. Hearing crickets in my backyard is about the extent of my excitement.
My only question to you is, there are spiders, frogs, dogs, birds and geckos; do you have any monkeys, fish, bears moose or skuirellebkgs?
