After a late night of packing and continously making my dad and Brandt lift my bags to check the weight, just praying they'd both be under 50 pounds (yes, I won the most luggage award... that's embarrasing haha) it was a bitter sweet good-bye. I have been waiting so long for this adventure to begin and I couldn't believe it was finally time to go. Four month in South Africa, could I make it?! I can't even wrap my mind around how long that is I will be away, halfway around the world.

I was so excited and so sad to say goodbye to the family. My mom, dad, and Jenna-who was so kind to skip school, although I am sure she didn't mind that at all- brought me to the airport. After meeting up with the group of St. Ben's women I'd be traveling with, converting some money to the South African rand, sorting out our tickets, and saying countless "goodbyes, it was time to go.

Right before our take-off in Minneapolis at 10:30 a.m., I was surprised with one last "goodbye" from Judy Burtis who just so happened to be working that day! It was great! Then, butterflies in my stomach, we were off! First lay-over, Washington Dulles International airport!
