SUNDAY, 14th January

In the morning, after breakfast, we watched the recorded bits of the football we had missed while we were out the night before. We took off soon afterwards, took the A10  to Cambridge and parked under a hotel. We wandered the old streets in the cold and saw both Trinity and St. Johns colleges from their quadrangles. I think I prefer Oxford. We had a big lunch of chicken and bacon and salad and chips. More than I could eat. Plus a ginger cake with maple syrup and ice cream. No more food today, please!

Cambridge did not seem like a good place to stay the night so we took the A14 to Newmarket. We tried a couple of B&B's but they were full and ended up at the Best Western. Anne very cleverly negotiated the price down from 130 to 77 but only because we overheard notice of a cancellation. We were expecting a small room at the back maybe but we were given the keys to an enormous suite at the front. A huge room with a double and a single and a tennis court in between! I loved the bathroom...all light and airy...tiles I just had to take a photo of and a bath with one end moulded to fit around the shower. We did not move out of the room all night and had nothing to eat except the biscuits as provided.
