THURSDAY, 12th October
FRIDAY, 13th October

Another foggy day in Singen town. Which meant that the ongoing plan to go up the mountain to take in the view from the Howenweil castle was off yet again. To the library instead to confirm that all our hotels were booked, ie. confirmation emails had arrived. There were further emails from friend C, niece J in Edinburgh and the Browns...not the soul singer,

We learned that Anne's NZ sister Dawn and husband Richard were to be in Tasmania that weekend and that long time English friend P and her very long time partner P were to be married, at long last, in Malta. We lunched in the town and went off to the Media Market on the Singen road to buy some Aussie wine.

SATURDAY, 14th October

We stayed in all day but in the evening dressed up a little to go dine with Ulrich and Ulriche, a couple in their late forties who had recently befriended H and U and who had called around earlier in the week to make our acquaintance and invite us to dinner. Ulrich knocked on the door about 6.30 and guided us on foot to his house on the other side of the main road nearer the lake. A very similar house to the one we were living in and once again immaculate in its neatness and décor. All mod cons over four levels and numerous rooms all with doors...a necessity in this climate. Their kids are grown up. One was in South America...studying, whilst the other was in Frankfurt event organising. Conversation did not flag. They spoke very good English although you could tell that they were out of practice. Ulrich had the stronger personality in a very likable way although I wish he had not insisted on breaking into song on occasion especially when he sang Waltzing Matilda through to the last verse!

We had smoked fish from the lake as an entrée followed by a home made quiche, which sounds very ordinary,  but which was bursting with all sorts of nutritious goodies. There was enough for a dozen of us and was accompanied by a green salad and some Aussie wine. Ice cream to follow and a cheese platter.
