Have I mentioned the garbage. This country is recyclable crazy. Our domestic waste has to be sorted into...
Clean paper...blue bin...monthly
Food scraps and garden waste...brown bin...weekly
Plastics and other related synthetic materials...yellow plastic bag...monthly
Larger items such as clothing or gadgets or toys...black bin...two monthly
PVC bottles, beer bottles and beer crates...anytime...return to supermarket for refund
Green, ie wine bottles...anytime ...to appropriate bin in car park
White glass...anytime...to appropriate bin in car park
Batteries...anytime...to wherever you can find a battery box in a shopping mall
Computers and monitors...anytime...to appropriate collection point
Any other large items...twice yearly...on the street
Not only must there be an enormous workforce involved in the collection and storage of all these separate receptacles but it must be time consuming for the residents and it must create a clutter of bins both inside and outside the house. Here in our house on Bohlinger Strasse there are four receptacles in the carport and four bins in the kitchen!
