I've spent the past 8 days on the north shore of Bali in Tulamben with Bryan (from the US who was working on is Dive Master) and Werner, a 40 year old German Scuba Nazi, I mean, instructor, who is actually pretty hilarious once you accept his pompous manners. So now I have my Open Water, Advanced, and Rescue Diver certifications, which is nice to have the knowledge of 3 giant books and the experience of 20 dives - and i saved over $1000 by doing the courses here, rather than Australia. The highlight of Tulamben is the sunken WWII ship the USS Liberty, which is now covered in coral and tropical fish. By far my favorite dive was the Night Dive with Bryan, where we navigated through the wreck with only flashlights and following a giant grouper eating all the other fish - Surprising, being 30m underwater, in the open ocean, in the pitch black, in a sunken wreck, during a lightning storm, is not so scary when you're distracted by how awesome it is to feel like an astronaut.
