Hey everyone sorry for not blogging yesterday. I was whiped out yesterday and ended up going to bed early. On the good side, finally got my first good nights sleep since getting here. Yesterday it had snowed pretty hard, woke up and most of it was gone. It was beautiful out, sunny with not a cloud in the sky. We decided to head to the tokyo tower today since it was so nice out. We got to to the tower and it looks just like the Eiffel Tower except for its orange and white color. We sprung on the best deal they had and decided to pay a little extra to go to the very top observation deck. After getting there, you had to take a step back to just comprehend the magnitude of everything you were seeing. It was probably one of the best city views i have ever seen. Everywhere you look theres such big buildings and structures. It looked like it would just keep on going. We spent quite a bit of time up there just to soak it all in. Headed back to the main observation deck we were asked to participate in a survey for some consumer travel magazine. We gladly did, and they also asked us if they could get some pictures of us. So we might be featured in their magazine! ahhaa. We wish we would have been able to see the city during the night with all the lights but it was still mind blowing nonetheless.
Leaving the tower we were headed to Yasukuni Shrine. A short stop before heading to the Imperial Palace. We ended up walking for what seemed like forever...but we saw some pretty cool stuff on the way. There were these steps that were super steep, so we decided to climb to see what was up there. Shoji talked to a guy and found out that The temple on top was built with left over sand from the Imperial Palace, and the steep steps were used by Samurai's riding their horses up. It blew my mind that horses could make it up those steep steps. Still walking over to the shrine I almost got ran over by a bike, ahhaha showing my American colors by getting in the way all the time. By the time we got to Yasukuni, there was not much time for us to look around since it would be closing soon. Apparently the shrine was built to honor all of the men and animals that fought to defend Imperial Japan. Over 2,440,000 people/animals were honored for their service and death in battle.
The final stop on our journey was to the Pokemon Center!! haha everyone in our group were pokemon nerds so we all wanted to go there. Lots of cool neat stuff there, but never being into the show i wasn't super into it. We were all hungry after that so we stopped at this Japanese curry restaurant. The food there was really good but it was also pretty spicy given the nature of the hotness of the curry.
Tonight we are hoping to go out and hit a karaoke bar. We heard of this one that is supposed to give you unlimited drinks and ICE CREAM. hahah of all things to mix with beer, they like ice cream. Perfect for me because those are 2 of my favorite things! Should be a good night. Thanks to all who are following my blog, it means alot to know that people are interested with whats going on with me. Hope all is well, talk to you soon!
