Sooo, we didn't enter a blog for every day we stayed in Alexandria, VA. Mostly because we were both busy looking for jobs, heading to New York for interviews, or just lounging with our new hosts for the summer, Courtney Catron and Joel Pliskin.

In total, we spent about six weeks with them (talk about good friends!), cooking dinners, drinking wine, playing backyard bocce, and watching Giants baseball games.

We experienced El Derecho of June 2012, during which trees were blown down and all of the electricity went out in the entire neighborhood. We were in the dark for about four days and we had to all sleep in the basement to keep cool at night until the power came back on. It was like a grown-up slumber party -- Bret even read us a scary story from his iPhone.

We attended a Washington Nationals vs. San Francisco Giants baseball game in 100+ degree weather on the 4th of July.

We watched all three Batman movies within three days.

Bret even helped Courtney and Joel design their new kitchen cabinets and by the time we left for New York for good, they were almost completed!

We even went camping together at Assateague National Seashore where we stumbled across wild ponies and our first ever horseshoe crab.

By the end of the summer, Courtney and Lizette had more than one night of staying up until 3am watching old country music videos on YouTube.

And Bret and Joel had more than one backyard bocce throwdown, betting on who would have to load the dishwasher, etc, etc.

It was a great blur of a summer getting to hang out with some of our closest friends who we originally met back in San Francisco.

And now that we're on the East Coast, we're looking forward to more fun weekends with them -- however, El Derecho is not invited.
