We took off for San Diego by about 10:30. We happened to drive by the San Onofre Nuke Towers which look like two giant boobs, so we just had to take a picture. We drove past San Diego and down to the last USA exit, where we could see the Mexican flag waving just across the border. The border town, San Ysidro, is lined with stores covered in signs all in Spanish -- felt like we were back in Mexico.
Then we made the drive back up to San Diego to see Myriem and Brett. Myriem and Bret (with one ‘t’) worked together at C3 Design Alliance in San Francisco. Myriem and Brett (with two ‘t’s) got married the same month as Lizette and Bret in April 2011
During the afternoon, Myriem drove us around and showed us La Jolla Village and the Cove where there were several rock formations and hidden beaches with sea lions. We walked the strip of shops and restaurants and then drove up to Torrey Pines Golf Course – where Myriem & Brett were married a year ago and where Bret (w/ one ‘t’) wished he had golf clubs and the funds to play a quick eighteen.
For dinner, we met up with Brett and headed to Cozymel’s for Mexican food and margaritas. Then we headed home to play several hands of UNO – where Lizette learned the true meaning of the word ‘defeat’. However, Myriem says there’s no such thing as a loser, only a last winner. ;)
Tonight, we’re checking in early for some good sleep on the air mattress in Myriem and Brett’s study/soon-to-be-nursery. Loving southern California and all the thriving flora. Supposedly they have 266 days of sunshine down here. Well, you can check off three of the remaining ninety-nine days of wet air since we arrived. Tomorrow is Lizette and Bret’s one-year wedding anniversary. Bret is so glad that Lizette has not found the 15-carat diamond necklace in the glove compartment yet…
