I think the whole RV world had decided to come to Oshkosh, we have never ever seen soooooo many RV’s of every description and tenters in one location. It felt like Woodstock for the over 40 year olds. The information we have suggests that there are 750,000 people visiting over the week, and it appears that most are here in their RV’s or have flown in and are sleeping under the wings of their planes.
What a set up these guys from EAA (Experimental Aviation Association) have provided for air enthusiasts. The show has been going for 35 years and you can see why they come here year after year
You can camp at EAA if you are a member, so we joined for the year at $40.00 and camping per night (no site facilities but toilets showers water and dump station is not far away) cost $21.00/night. Because we are EAA members we get a good discount on the daily entry to the Airfield and we enjoyed a free concert by the Dobbie Bros on the first evening.
The air show lasts for 7 days but after two days for me (I went to the Outlet Mall on the third day) and 3 days for Brent that was more than enough. So if you have any interest in planes and that includes flying on Air New Zealand, this show gets a big recommendation from us.
Once again our trusty bikes have been invaluable getting us to an from the airfield (although a shuttle is provided for campers) There is even an outdoor theatre like a drive in but more like a walk in or bike in near by and every night a movie is shown and last night Harrison Ford did the introduction. Yes that Harrison Ford, the actor, as he is a pilot and is involved with EAA.
The weather has improved somewhat, there are still showers , but Jo finally has sun tan marks on her feet from her jandals.
