Hi guys

Jeanette here -  Easter weekend came around and I had no work, so we headed off to Sardinia - an island off the west coast of Italy. Candice and Duncan had booked a villa on the beach and another couple Ian and Hennie joined us. We flew into Alghero airport in Sardinia, from there we hired cars and drove to our villa which was beautiful and right next to the beach.

The first day it rained a little so we went into the local town to stock up on food and drinks for the long weekend, but found it was siesta from 1pm- 4.30 pm and the shops where all closed. So we decided to stop in a local bar and drank wine for the rest of the afternoon. Later on the shopping later was done really efficiently and with no arguments!

The sun came later that afternoon and we decided to have a braai. Unfortunately the villa only had a pizza oven, so we dug a hole in the sand - like true south africans - and once the meat was cooked this soon turned into a bonfire. After a great meal and a "few" drinks Ian and I decided that we needed some tunes and sang at the top of our lungs -all night. heehee.....

The next day the boys did some fishing in a lagoon on the beach but this was fruitless, the girls spent some time on the beach. Sardinia is known for its seafood so that evening we went in search of a good restaurant and we followed the recommendations of our villa owners, to a restaurant called FoFo. On first impressions was that it looked a bit fancy but we looked at the menu and it seemed reasonable. So we ordered away - Ian and Duncan ordered lobster for 12 Euro and we had fish of the day, side dishes and pudding etc. It was all fantastic until the bill arrived and it was about 4 times what we thought it would be!! 440 Euro for the 6 of us. Our inexperience and bad Italian had led us astray. The prices on the menu were only per 100 grams. So it should say lobster 12 Euro/100grams. Anyway this broke the bank a bit.

The next day we decided to go for a drive inland to check out the countryside, but made the mistake of driving to far and then when turning around our petrol light came on. This is on Easter Sunday with no petrol stations open and 60 kms of rural countryside to drive. Eventually after some coasting on mountain roads and begging the locals we found a petrol station with a pre-pay machine. The boys thought this was a great adventure, me who spends a lot of time with Brendon and his "adventures"............. nerves are shot.

Otherwise there was a lot of unwinding and a great time was had by all.

Check out the previous entry from our ski trip to france. and also check out pics added to our Zermatt trip November last year.

Love Jeanette and Brendon
