All of the faithful followers of this blog, this is not really for you. This blog entry is rather for the two of us. We have been traveling for so long- 79 days, have seen so much- like the glorious mosques in Turkey and the highest mountain on this planet, Mt. Everest. We now are so accustomed to seeing great things that we have to force ourselves to appreciate our surroundings. After about 6.87 million seconds (79 days) of being on the road, or since leaving less than 24 hours after being married (this is our total marriage time also), we are now yearning for momma's home cooking and not the world's seven wonders or anything of that sort. A sofa that doesn't ooze cockroaches, or a bed with giant geckos running out from underneath, or the disease infested of disease infested dogs following you around all afternoon, Amazonian moths on your bathroom door that have a brilliant color pattern reminiscent of poison dart frogs, or when you're just about to doze off into a good night and you feel 'something' run up your leg toward your neck before you: come to, brush it off, and flip on the light to find.... it ran away to haunt you all night. What was that??? Or when you walk through a peaceful garden, stumble into some old ruins, see fun monkeys running around. They scream at each other- you get a few goose bumps. They start to chase each other around the ruins, up and down, then start speeding right toward you! With their nice canines teeth shining in the light, you do the quick very nervous back peddle away keeping an eye on them... They stop five feet from you and one sinks his teeth into the spine of the monkey being chased. While it is screaming bloody murder, you are thinking about your bare legs, wishing chain-male was still in fashion, and seeing a thousand different incurable viruses and bacteria in the saliva of this power hungry monkey, or when you want to see the world cup (it only happens ever four years) and there is a multi-ton male elephant smelling six other female elephant in heat and is roaming the same streets you will be at three in the morning, or gazing out the bus window on your way to a wilderness preserve area and seeing a large dead water buffalo in the dirty river of the city, or many other things that we can tell you when we get home. Trust us, a dozen freshly cooked chocolate chip cookies would be worth more than gold to us right now. So we bought a ticket, we thought the 3rd of September would be a nice time to fly to San Francisco and then get another flight home to Minneapolis, Minnesota, just in time for the first snow fall.
We flew from Kathmandu, Nepal to Bangkok, Thailand on the 23th of July. We were greeted by the wall of hot humid air and walked into a beautiful, clean, organized airport with free transportation into the center of Bangkok. We finally are on 'holiday' as the British say. We found a restaurant that I would fly back to at anytime from anywhere, it was the perfect introduction to a wonderful country, Thailand. Our diet has been solid Thai food from anywhere we see the Thai eating, and it is usually around 4 dollars for both of us to eat. The food here is excellent, and the food of Nepal is behind us. Kristina started classes so we spent a few days in Bangkok enjoying the city to its fullest... What does this mean? No red light districts, or trashy bar. The city is so clean, so organized, and so quiet compared to Kathmandu. Most people do not understand, but trust us, if you do not like the city of Bangkok, then stay out of Nepal. After about a week in the capital we went on an over night bus to a port town and jumped on a three hour tour. Ko Tao was our destination. A beautiful little island with nicely secluded white sand beaches. We rented snorkel gear and saw an awesome variety of God's creation. Long spine black sea urchins(poisonous), brown and white sea anemone, a variety of wrasses, parrot fish, needle fish, cuttle fish, and honestly thousands of other reef fish. There was a very healthy school of fish in a little cove and I slowly swam into the school of a few thousand fish, and they began to form a large circle around me, I was completely engulfed in a school of silvery fish. We rented a 'taxi boat' and visited an cluster of three islands connected by a long sand bar and snorkeled there for the afternoon. Jumping on a speedy cateraman we went south to another island with beautiful beaches called Ko Phangan and this is where we are now. Tomorrow we leave to another and our last island, Ko Samui, before going to Krabi in southern Thailand. We thank you for all the support on getting us around the world, and for your prayers that have kept us healthy and alive.
