25th

Dive has been put off til tomorrow so decide to go out of town for the day instead. Taxi in to central bus station and then 102 bus to Umm Salal Mohammad. Spot the towers of the fort and walk to them. Jump wall and go exploring. All reno'd up, looks like it's set to become an official attraction.
From the top of fort I spot the other towers about a km away. Walk there. Can't go in as they're houses now. Filming them when approached by two Nepali workers. They take me to their boss' date plantation. Show me dates, ducks, goats, sacred cow. Awesome.
Catch bus onwards to Al Khor. Hot, sunny, all shops closed, towers don't even have doors. Spend about 1.5 hours there hopping from one patch of shade to the next before getting bus back to Doha.
While away the dead of the afternoon in Internet Café, until soldiers shoo everyone out of the shopping centre so Family Day can being. Brief wander through the gold souq, then go to bus station to catch taxi to where the falcon souq has relocated to. Turns out it's simply Souq Wafq, which I didn't recognise the name of, and I get stung 20QR for a trip around the corner. Find falconry store but no birds as falcon season doesn't begin until September. Chat with the owner for a while - he's Bangladeshi. He makes me some tea and we watch some Bollywood film.
Go souvenir shopping and have tea at a kebab shop. Proper kebabs, with koftas cooked on swords. Delicious. Buy an incense burner and some oud for Brian & Cecilia. Buying the oud feels like a drug deal, the shop owner pulls out of briefcase of his product for me to inspect, then weighs it out on a set of scales, and then chops it up into fine pieces all the while telling me that it's such good quality that I'll only need to use a little bit at a time.
