After a 12 hour drive, my longest push the whole trip, I arrived in Dallas. I found John and Patty's house, and although it was late, they were both up and waiting for me.  Patty and John are old acting friends of my dad.  When I was a kid in Los Angeles, we would visit them at there house.  These were special visits.  John was, and still is, a puppet maker and puppeteer.  Some of my earliest memories are of his puppets and their cool house.  I have always loved puppets and John's influence early in my life has always been evident.  Eventually they left LA and moved back to Dallas, where they're from.
I spent Thanksgivings with them, some of their friends, and their other two daughters.  Talk about feeling thankful.  It was wonderful to spent time with Patty and John.  Listening to stories about my dad when they were younger and learning a lot about the "business" of theater and show.
John has been doing a big puppet show for a local mall for years.  He's a tradition in Dallas and the shows start on black Friday; so I got to tag along, learn how he makes some of the magic happen, and check out a really great mall.  The mall is quite large and filled with modern art.  The family that owns the mall also owns one of the largest collections of modern art in the country, so they filled the building with huge pieces that kids can walk right up to, touch and even play around.  John's puppet shows were a lot of fun, especially his Scrooge show, where he basically gets to make fun of kids for a while.  Sounds like my kind of show. ;)
Well, in order to make it back to Atlanta for a wedding, I had to leave earlier then I wanted and pull another 12 hour drive.  This also marks one of the last entries in my travel blog.  I'll have one more entry when I get back to Atlanta.
I really didn't get enough time in Dallas and I look forward to going back, visiting John, Patty and the girls again, and exploring the city.
