When my host family asked me if I would like to go into Bremen I responded, 'Well of course!' We planned to go on Wednesday, but not just any Wednesday; the Tag der Deutsches Einhet (or German Unification Day). The reason was because this was a free day, no school and no work. We made our way through the countryside to Bremen via one of my favorite German institutions; The Autobahn. Even though it is almost completely like Michigan’s freeways (i.e. most people drive 80 mph, yet people still manage pass you. However when they pass in Germany, they are sometimes doing 130, not 95). It is just the idea; freedom to drive how fast you want.
It was a rainy, cold day; just like almost every other day in Northern Germany. The weather is just one of those things one simply adapts to. The one thing it does have going for it is that there is nothing like a cold rainy day for reading a book or perhaps taking a nap. Nevertheless, our day in the city would be a rainy one. We were going on a guided tour of the old part of town.  Once we were at the meeting place at the town square, we found our guide and began.
Our tour was in German, so I got about half of it; but I still learned a lot andd saw some beautiful sights! Afterwards we had coffee and cake (very typical German). It was a swell day!
