Follow the son of "The Great White Hunter" on his adventures in to the unknown...
Departing DFW for Berlin on Lufthansa Flight LH439 departing at 4:25pm CST. Arriving at Frankfurt 9:05am. I will be 7 hrs ahead of Central Standard Time. 3 hr layover in Frankfurt Departing for Berlin at 12:00pm on flight LH178.

9hr 40 min flight to Frankfurt was smooth except over North Carolina. The plane left Dallas, following I-30 East over Lake Ray Hubbard, Texarkana, Memphis, Nashville, then we turned a little to the North and got over the Atlantic at Baltimore. Saw New York from my window seat at night. Looks VERY different from Dallas and Mid West Cities from the air. We continued to follow the coast to Nova Scotia and then over the Atlantic. It got VERY rough in the middle of the flight. I watched the onboard map showing our location and made a mental note in case I needed to point out on a map where we down, somewhere about where the Titanic did. :-) Inflight entertainment was Nice, but not as good as British Airways choices. 7 movies to choose from, most people seemed to watch Michael Jackson's "This is It", the footage from him practicing for the upcoming tour before he died. Everyone else watched G-Force the animated gerbal movie. The turbulence didn't last long and we made it over Ireland, Cork, Bath, London, and over Brussels before landing in Frankfurt.

The decent was tough, I'm not sure why the pressure change feels like the blood vessels in my forehead are going to burst, took asprin. Lufthansa seemed to own the Entire Frankfurt airport. It reminds me of Love Field, only 3 times as big. It wasn't very nice, reminded me of a High School built in the 70's, but the shops in the center were VERY nice, especially duty free, Gucci, Bugari watches and more...

I went through customs and all he did was stamp my passport with the date. You can't even really tell where it was stamped, what city, country or anything, just the date. He didn't ask any questions or anything, just stamp and walked on through. Went through another Security Checkpoint on the way to Terminal A to catch connecting flight to Berlin. Their scanners were not nearly as well organized or sophisticated as the US security. They didn't have a body scanner like DFW had, but did go over everybody with a metal detecting wand and pat down. Well everybody but me, for some reason.

Food prices were high, 4Euro50 for something resembling a Cibata with shaved ham and spikey lettuce. Looked strange, but was good. Bottle of water was 3Euros and a Bananen was $1.50. T-mobile had hotspots at both DFW and Frankfurt, but one has to pay 8 Euro an hour. Watched Doctor Who: Daleks in Manhattan on my laptop and boarded my plane to Berlin. This was very much like taking South Western out of Love Field. No frills, just 45 minutes up and down like going to Houston.
