I had the lovely opportunity to wake up at 6 am today (Jan. 19) to go to Traditions. I think I will be going to sleep very early throughout this program, as I am exhausted by 8 pm! Today was very fun, as we set out to Disney University for a 4.5 hour class. First, we learned about being ethical, which was boring. Then, our two trainers (very enthusiastic trainers, I might add), started educating us about the history of the Disney organization. We then had the chance to walk through the Utilidoors, which run under the Magic Kingdom. Some of my dreams were crushed as I saw several things that would cause children to need extensive therapy.

At Traditions we learned that there really is only ONE Mickey Mouse (not 200 like some people claim). Mickey travels via magic, duh! Whether that be via Aladdin's magic carpet, Tinker Bell's Pixie Dust, or the Fairy Godmother, that mouse travels fast! That's why you might see him in Fantasyland at 2:30 pm, and then in the 3 pm parade, and later at 6 pm at Epcot. Also, the people in the characters' costumes are simply "friends with" each character. So, our one trainer had previously been "friends with" Chewbacca, because he was probably 6'6 and fit the suit...like Gregg Brady. Our trainers tended to yell "WOOHOO!" every 5 minutes, which never failed to startle all the interns. There is also a random 50 year old College Program participant, which is more than slightly awkward, but whatever, I guess! At the conclusion of Traditions, we received our pins! Yippee! Earlier, we received our official ID cards that allow employees to enter the parks for free and receive discounts on food and merchandise.

After Traditions, Michael, my neighbor Megan, and two girls from Patterson headed over to the Magic Kingdom! We enjoyed wandering around, and I liked Monsters Inc Laugh Floor. The man they kept showing on the screen did not seem happy to be involved in the whole process. If Debbie Downer had a husband, I think it would be this guy. Well I will be going to bed fairly early tonight, as I have to wake up around 6:30 for Orientation tomorrow at Downtown Disney. Wish me Luck! Have a magical day!

P.S. My bed is the louder than I could have ever predicted. It is made of cheap vinyl or something, so when I move an inch, it sounds like the Titanic is hitting that infamous iceberg.
P.P.S. I also had a delicious Chic Fil A sandwich several days ago, and the famous dole whip today!

I liked the Gregg Brady reference there, Brad!

According to Debbie, "It must really be fun working at Disney. Although at any major theme park, you live under the constant threat of terrorist attacks." So... be safe!
