The flight with Jetstar from Darwin to Singapore was only half full, this luckily allowed me to take upu all three seats and lie down. Unfortunately it was still early in the evening and I was not tired enough to have any sleep.
The arrival at Changi Airport in Singapore was greeted with the news that the Qantas flight from Singapore to London was delayed by 2 ½ hours, wish I knew that earlier.....
Getting 450 people on board the plane took a little while. When walking down the tunnel into the plane I caught a glimpse of the engines of the plane, they were huge, the wings were equally impressive, and in fact everything about this plane was huge. Everything except the seats. The seats must have been designed by 10 year old kids, not adults
A couple of hours into the flight I decide that it was time to have my first snooze. I lasted about an hour before this horrible smell woke me. The smell can best be described as similar to a dead body, a combination of stale urine and shit. I looked around expecting that the old lady sitting on the aisle seat next to me had dropped dead. Well, it turned out dropped something, her guts. She had pissed and shit herself. She couldn't or didn't make it to the toilet. At this point in time being an air hostess is not very glamorous. Escorting the lady to the toilet and giving her replacement clothing. They also replaced the whole base of the seat. When the lady arrived back to her seat it was covered in plastic and a towel over the top of that. I was awake enough to watch another movie at this stage and an hour into the smell of stale urine filled the plane again. Yes, the little old lady pissed herself and again was escorted to the toilet and given another change of pants
I had organised to spend the first afternoon catching up with two friends I hadn't seen for about 6 years, Simon and Kelvin. They are both now living over here. In the pouring rain Simon was sent to find me and take to a pub where Simon's wife, Kelvin and his girlfriend were waiting. One thing about the SOHO area, there is no shortage of pubs. The afternoon was spent going from pub to pub sampling the local ales. It was great to catch up with them.
My second day in London I decided to have a look at the main sites which merged into a Monopoly board tour of London, unfortunately I was unable to afford any houses or hotels along the way. Piccadilly, Regent Street, Coventry Street, Leicester Square, Whitehall, Pall Mall, The Strand, Trafalgar Square, well there's half the board
After a night out which involved drinking way too much it was an early start to meet the Queen. Unfortunately she didn't want to see me which was understandable I must have looked like shit from the night before. Even walked in pouring the rain, that's the last time I go and visit her at her house, Buckingham Palace. After that disappointment I went back to the hostel and attempted to sleep, not sure if its jetlag or a hangover, probably a combination of both. Think a greasy bacon and egg sandwich will fix it.
