Sandi and I went to Mt. Sinai.  We visited St. Katherine's Monastery.  St. Katherine was tortured by the Romans in Alexandria.  According to the story, the spiked wheel that tortured her to death came off and killed the Romans that performed the act.  Then a bird came and took her body to the highest point in Egypt (Mt. Katherine).  Mt. Katherine is next to Mt. Sinai, where Moses received the 10 Comandments.  There has been a church continuously in use since the 3rd century.  The monastery at the base (St. Katherine;s Monastery) is the oldest church in the world.

There are 3750 steps up to the top of Mt. Sinai.  These steps, called the Steps of Repentance, were laid by a single monk as a form of penance.  We took the camel route up.  We had a Bedouin guide and two Bedouin camel owners followed us up with their camels.  Our group of 6 people were the only people on the mountain.  There is a church and a mosque at the top.  We watched the sunset from the top of the mountain.  It was beautiful scenery.  The walk down in the dark was also pretty with the desert sky being so clear.
