We thought we had prepared ourselves for the 16 hour bus ride down to Bukittinggi but nothing could prepare us for that. The only consolation we saved a nights accomodation. It was long, bumpy and we harldy slept but it brought us to another place on our great adventure.

Bukittinggi is a market town with lots to do around e.g Volcanoes, forest tribes. Due to the short time we had here we could only wander through town but they have a great panorama point overlooking the canyon and onto the 2 volcanos surrounding the town. There are apparently some gigantic flowers that grow here and we went off in search of them. We got dropped off a all the wrong places (even by our Indonesian version of the Stig) and told different things by everyone. It seems that everyone here is a guide. Even the guy who was sawing planks of wood on the side of the road! Anyway as we decided to venture off and try and find these flowers on our own, we met a very nice lady who said the walk to find the flowers was an hour through the jungle and the flowers weren't even in bloom. Instead she said she could show us her little coffee business and we ended up in her house eating traditional cake and drinking Kopi Luwak. Yes thats right the very expensive coffee that is made from the beans that have been eaten and pooed out by the civet cat. Apparently its supposed to taste amazing but to our amateur palates it tasted like coffee. Still it was great to see how it was made locally and the lady was really friendly. If anyone goes and wants to check it out its in the same village that you get dropped off at to go and see the flowers. She sells the coffee for way cheaper then anywhere else in the world.

After our cup of poo coffee we attempted to head back to town but ALL the buses were full and we ended up walking the 12km back to town. We caught a brief lift by a bunch of workers in a smoky, loud music filled truck. Oh the stories we have!

Today is our last day in Indonesia and tonight we are taking another 12 hour overnight bus that will take us back to Malaysia.
