The day started at 05:45 am when we packed up and left Bukit Lawang to catch an early bus to Medan and then on to Danau Toba. The bus was a rackety thing that took us three hours to get to Medan, then we had to cross Medan city to get to another bus station to sit for another 5 hours down to the Lake. It was a long day however as tired and pissed off as we might have been, that instantly fizzled away as we came down the winding road towards the Lake. It really is a beautiful spot in Sumatra and reminded us a little bit of being in Ireland with all the green rolling hills surrounding the lake. It was so easy to find cheap accommodation right on the lake front and we took advantage of this by walking out of our room and jumping into the refreshing water for a morning swim and messing around! The peninsula of Tuk-tuk which is essentially where we stayed on the island is a great place to really unwind and chill out and you can easily settle here for days. Sipping on our sweet milk coffees we really got the feeling that we are living a charmed life at the moment!
