We left Hat Yai in Thailand and started to make our way into Malaysia. We arrived at the van pick up spot and eventually the mini van arrived about 20 minutes late. So we get into this van thinking this ride is going to be great. We were the only ones in the van and it had all the mod cons including speakers on the roof, wooden trims around the doors and ceiling, loads of shiny fittings...we were travelling during the day but at night I'm sure a disco ball dropped down from the ceiling. So we are happy. Half an hour later the van pulls up to another van waiting on the side of the road and tells us to take our luggage and get into that one. That van was not so fun because it was full and we had to make those people wait...turns out the driver had forgotten us and the pimped out car was only a catch up.

So here we are in Penang, a cool little island (but no island feel) off the north western coast of Malaysia. We are in a town called Georgetown and its quite big with shopping malls and things you would expect in an avergae city. The cool thing about here is that it is well known for its many varieties of cuisines incl chinese, malay, indian and japanese. Its great for us seeing as a major attraction of coming to all the countries we are is the food. So Brad and I have been eating...lots!

Another thing we have discovered is tiger balm! Yesterday evening we spent quite a while rubbing it under our noses and sniffing it from the jar! Its pretty handy stuff for all sorts of scrathes, bites, bruises and whatever else the chinese guy who sold it to me said.

Today we wanted to book ourselves on a ferry to Sumatra, Indonesia because we will do that bit of our trip and come back to Malaysia. So we wandered happily into the office and she told us that the ferry tomorrow was fully booked and the next available one was the 8th of December. Luckily we asked at another travel agent who said there was space and so we have our tickets to Indo. Nevertheless we will be at the ferry very early tomorrow morning just in case!

A great food place here is the Red Garden Market somewhere around love lane. Nor easily missed. Thats where we are going to eat tonight!

Buon appetito or mankia shateyi (haha I don't know what that means)!

Do NOT use tiger balm anywhere south of the navel. Ever. (I know, who would? I mean really...but it's been done before)
