Jaipur is known as the pink city in Rajasthan because its old city is surrounded by a wall that is painted pink. Here is where the Diwali festival really kicked off. Our hotel had a rooftop restaurant and for two nights we sat and ate curry and watched fireworks. What a life! Some of the fireworks were a bit dysfunctional and had hardly left the ground before exploding! The streets were alive with festivities and music and so much colour. By now we had eaten a good couple of curries and drank a lot of chai masala. Delicious!

During the day we were shepherded along with the other tourists to see all the sights and to buy all the souvenirs. Its quite an event to buy something in India. It begins with a cup of chai then the guy brings out all his stuff and puts on a show and then only do you start talking prices. We bought a wicked rug here...our first international purchase. There will be much more!
