Hostal las Palmeras

We're now half way through December and the weather has started to warm up. We decided to go for a quick trip to Cerro Azul which is 130km south of Lima. One thing you may notice if you wanted to go for an overnight trip to a town on the coast around Lima is that there really are no hotels on the coast outside of Lima. There are small and very basic 'hospitajes' but not hotels. I did however find 'Hostal las Palmeras' at Cerro Azul which is right on the beach, has a lovely swimming pool and has basic rooms some of which have unobstructed ocean views. The beach is actually good for swimming and has small waves. The most interesting thing to see in Cerro Azul is the 400 metre long Jetty which was built in the 1920s as part of a small freight line which was used to transport produce from the surrounding area to ships for export. There is a small museum located near the Jetty with and old freight engine. There are a couple of restaurants on the water front right near the hotel in addition to a number of other basic restaurants around the main square which is about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. It is worth noting that while the hotel is open all year round from April to November costal towns in Peru are very quiet and the weather is usually cloudy of foggy.
