- Language- Hungarian: I was surprised at the language barrier- it's nice to travel with a Hungarian if at all possible!
- English speakers & signage are really only in the touristy areas
- Make sure you have a Hungarian map of the city- the street & attraction names are totally different in English
- If you're traveling in the winter (and you like sunlight), start your day early as the sun sets around 3:30-4pm. You're in luck in the summer as the sun sets around 8:30-9pm.
- Budapest discount card: available for 2 or 3 days, offers free entrance to some sites, plus many discounts. For me, it wasn't worth it as I was more interested in walking and sightseeing, rather than going in museums, touristy restaurants, etc.
- Helpful travel planning web sites: www.frommers.com for great (free) walking tours, www.ispy.com (check her email) for group tours, wine tasting, pub crawls)
