Kamloops is a city in south central British Columbia, at the confluence of the two branches of the Thompson River and near Kamloops Lake. It is the largest community in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District and the location of the regional districtīs offices. The surrounding region is more commonly referred to as the Thompson Country. It is ranked 37th on the list of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in Canada and represents the 44th largest census agglomeration nationwide, with 92,882 residents in 2006.

After the most amazing few days in Banff National Park we drove the 600 kms to Kamloops, which is a smallish town in British Columbia. One of Robīs closest friends, Paula lives in Kamloops with her husband, Pete and little boy Luca. We arrived to a fantastic welcome from Paula, Pete & Luca. They had arranged for one of their friends, Justin, to take us out on the river for the afternoon on his speedboat for some nautical high jinx and a picnic. The weather was glorious so we drove to the river armed with enough food and beer to keep an army going for several days. It was just what the doctor ordered after being stuck in the car for a few hours to just relax, drink and eat on the river. Paula and Rob havenīt seen each other for about 3 years so it was great for them to be able to catch up on all the gossip. After a swim in the river (plus a much needed pee after all that beer) we had a go at wakeboarding which is like water skiing but with a static board (kind of like a snowboard). Pete was the expert and so gave us some tips but Rob and I werenīt that great to be honest.

On day 2 we went to pick up Luca from his grandparents and managed to pilfer some apricots and peaches from Paulaīs fathers fruit trees. We then headed up to Sun Peaks, which is one of the mountains near to Kamloops. The mountain is used for skiing and snowboarding in the winter but as it was summer we headed up the mountain on the ski lift and went for a small trek through the forest and the acres of wild flowers growing on the mountain. Little Luca led the way and made a brilliant trek leader. Luca is seriously cute and kept Rob and myself entertained with his dancing and his general cuteness for the whole weekend. Like Jen and Alan in Calgary, Paula and Pete really looked after us in Kamloops and it made a lovely change to have some home cooked food (Paulaīs bolognese sauce and home made garlic bread is highly recommended).

We head to Vancouver next which is one of Robīs favourite cities as he lived and worked there for a few months ten years ago. This is where he met both Jenn and Paula.
