What I did
Visited Circus World
Circus World in Baraboo Wisconsin is located at the original site of the Ringling Bros. Circus when they used to have their winter quarters located in the north. I actually visited the museum about 40 years ago, but saw this as a chance to visited again after many years.
The museum has a wonderful collection of posters (some that are 8 feet tall and 20 feet long) and other artifacts. There was a number of miniature circus dioramas. One of these takes up a 15 by 20 foot area. The real jewels are the two buildings which house the collection of circus wagons. Many of these are from the turn of the century and very ornate
Also there was a live circus performance that lasted a little over an hour. Alison will add more information on that.
It is not a large attraction, but it was very nice. We got done there and headed out for our next location at around 12:30.
Today we went to the Circus World Museum. There, there were a ton of exhibits with posters and wagons, some from the very first circuses. There were props from the movie Water for Elephants that I took pictures of. My favorite part was the show. There was a bunch of acts with a horse, a monkey on a wagon with a Great Dane pulling it, an elephant, a hula hooper, a trapeze artist, clowns, a juggler, and my favorite... a bunch of Pekingese dogs doing a bunch of different tricks Check out the pictures!
I loved this place because it reminded me of some of the old family entertainment things that have disappeared over the years. I'm sure some of it was the same as when Bill visited 40 years ago. Actually Alison liked this even though she didn't suggest going here. That speaks volumes!
