It's 9 AM here at Schiphol International Airport, just 16 km. (10 mi.) from downtown Amsterdam. The last time we were at this airport was in 1976 when it was still fairly new having been built in 1967. It had a large shopping area at that time and it is much larger now with hundreds of stores and services including free showers and its own casino. There's plenty of stores selling flowers, cheese, liquor and chocolate (what a Dutch treat). It is the West Edmonton Mall of airport shopping centers.

We arrived a half hour early in Amsterdam, aided by a strong tail wind which at times reqched over 140 km (87 mph). The outside temperature during the flight reached as low as -53C (-63F).

Our next flight is on a Boeing 747. We haven't been on a 747 since the mid-1980s when we went to Hawaii. We are sitting in row 43! We didn't realize that we would be walking half way to Nairobi. Then we found out there are a total of 68 rows on the plane. Yikes! The 747 flight from Amsterdam to Nairob operates on a daily basis and it is full everyday.

They are calling for our plane to board, so we'll be' leaving on a jet plane .......'

Next stop Nairobi.
