Today is my last day in Cirebon so I decide to go to Trusmi Village where there are many batik shops. Cirebon produces a unique pattern which distinguishes this batik from batik in other areas. It is called "mega mundung motif" and it basically looks like the pattern of large clouds or large ocean waves. I stumbled upon a workshop where they make stamped batik instead of hand painting. Of course, everybody turns up their nose at stamped batik but after seeing the process I would say that these people earn every ruppie they make. If done with care these pieces are very nice as well.
There are so many shops and so much batik cloth that I find it quite overwhelming and after spending considerable time looking I decide to back to the hotel empty handed!!! I did make a small batik purchase though right in Cirebon which is a hand-painted!!! batik of Rama & Shinta (from the Ramayana tale) and then decide to organize my ride to Bandung. I asked at the hotel about buses and again they suggested the door to door van. So I will be picked up around 9 a.m. and should be in Bandung around noon.
