The AC bus ride was excellent.  Bus wasn't too full so I could stretch out over two seats.  The driver had some excellent music on which also helped!!  Once at the Bus station in Cirebon which is actually 4 km out, I find out that there are no taxis at the station so I have to take a becak.  I was trying to ask the fellow how much it would be to get to my hotel and he didn't understand.  This lovely young lady stopped and helped both of us out so off I was with my bags in a becak under the mid-day sun. I hadn't realized how far it was and really felt sorry for the poor guy having to peddle under this unbearable sun so I did give him more than we had negotiated. The trip was $2!!!   The Bantani Hotel (Jl. Siliwangi 69, Cirebon 45121 West Java - Indonesia - phone 0231-203246 - fax: 0231-207527) is offering a special rate for a standard room from 500,000 to 392,000 (approx. 40$) incl. buffet breakfast.  The breakfast has a large selection including both western and local food as well as "french pastries" and an omelette bar.  (I will later find out that French pastries can be found and are quite popular throughout Java which is a nice change from the Banana muffins in Malaysia!!!) There is wifi in the room and the hotel also has a lovely pool which is inside the courtyard so very private and I felt very comfortable in going for a swim at 8 or 9 at night.  I was also the only one using the pool on both evenings. This is really an excellent hotel for anyone coming to Cirebon and looking for comfort!!! There seems to be more business people staying here than tourist but then again I have only seen a few foreigners around.  It does really look like I am the only tourist in this town!!! Yet, I am totally enjoying  this city and actually prefer it to Semerang.  It is an excellent place to soak in authentic indonesian day to day life without the crowds and the traffic. Went walking all afternoon and discovered the markets where most everyone wanted their picture taken.  I also felt like a "star" when I stopped to take a photo of some school girls and they all wanted to shake my hand!!!

If you don't need wifi in the room and want a great hotel with so much charactor the Hotel Sare Sae looks great (JL Siliwangi No. 70 Tel. 0231-209489.  The posted rate for a Deluxe room was 300,000 and a Superior was 250,000
