Came here only to get to supposedly the best homestays at a longhouse.  Booked the overnight trip with Alice Tours & travel Agrency SDN. BHD.  (Alice Chua Bee Hun - 60198593126)  Recommended in Lonely Planet however there were serious problems with the tour we booked and I am not sure if the problems originate with Alice or the Longhouse and I would presume it would be both.  Tour with Alice for 1d/1n for 3 pax was 480R and was suppose to include evening performance and meals. Once at the Longhouse we could see that the Chief's son-in-law (Chief was away) was definitely upset. After a long 1+ hr discussion with Alice she left and we were brought into a room where we were told that Alice was not good and that she was supposed to bring food and hadn't (Alice explained that she had paid them to provide the food!!)  We were told that Alice had not paid for a guide or evening performance and both would cost at least 60R.  Alice said what she had paid them was to include it!!!! What we were told at the Longhouse was that Alice had paid 150R for the 3.  Knowing that a good mid-range hotel with breakfast for three costs 150R we thought that this was reasonable and that maybe the longhouse was wanting a bigger share  of the money.  Our stay at the longhouse was very uncomfortable because of the atmosphere and attitude of our hosts (the Chief's son-in-law)  We arrived there around 3 p.m. and were suppose to leave the next morning at 9:30 !!! 1d/1n/ package!!! However, Alice did not show up until 11 a.m.  The whole time we were at the longhouse we were just left on our own with really no explanation of way of life, culture . . .   I suggested to Alice that she not offer tours to that longhouse any longer.  She seemed quite authentic in apologizing so again not sure who was lying!!!  The only other guide around was Joshua Muda Guna (0194859190 email Joshuauda@hotmail.com) and for the same package but to a longhouse  a little further he was asking 1000R.  We felt that was ridiculously high -  for 1d/1n that would be approx 100 US+ per person.  For Malaysia that is very expensive!! Not sure what to recommend here although I did speak to some people that had done a longhouse stay near Kuching and said that it was great!!! Maybe that is the way to go now.  The cost would also probably be less as you don't have the high cost boat expenses on top of the homestay.
