So we made the hour long journey back to Cairns, and checked into Globetrotters backpackers hostel. This was our first experience of real backpacking accommodation I think, as we had a shared bathroom, kitchen and lounge. But it was fine, there was hardly anyone else staying, so we had the run of the place.

We were given a dinner voucher for the local pub, The Woolshed, so off we went for a free meal. The food was alright, and it was really busy as they do all the hostel meals, but what was even better was the 2 for 1 drinks!! We had food and made our way upstairs, where the music was really good....Shell nearly creamed her knickers when Alexis Jordan came on! Slowly people started to dance, so not wanting to be left out up we went too. Not long after the dance floor was packed and we all got up on the tables!!! In my book it's not a holiday without a night dancing on a bar or table!!

We had an absolute blast, and started speaking to a couple of Swedish people, Benny and Bjorn as we nicknamed them! The journey home was even funnier.....first we found a shopping trolley, to which I got in and made the girls push me home!! There was piggybacking and an unfortunate fall into some bushes!!! Ha ha!!

The next day however, I was not feeling my best. We started walking down towards the beach and decided to go get a MacDonalds to try and cure the hangover....I could barely manage it (those of you who know me best will know I'm in a bad way when I can't even finish my Maccys!). I really wanted to go back to the room, and the thought of a blistering hot sandy beach was not filling me with joy! But then we stumbled across the 'Lagoon'...an absolutely huge public swimming pool, in fact it looked a little like one of those infinity pools, as you could see the sea right at the end of the pool. It was heaven lying on that grass, I even started to forget about my bad head!!

Now there is something to be said for the Australian way of life - they live to enjoy it, not only do they have amazing beaches everywhere, but they put these huge pools in, and they have BBQ's everywhere too. Free public BBQ's, you don't pay for the gas or anything, It's amazing here, imagine that in England....it'd be ruined by scally's, smack-heads and tramps within a week. On the Wirral we can't even afford to keep a load of old shitty books in a bloody public library open, let alone a swimming pool....especially one that's free!!!!

Well Cairns was a short and sweet visit, and I loved it!! Next day would be a trek down the east coast to the Whitsunday Islands.
