Where I stayed
We were moved into our new room, which although was smaller, I think that I prefered it...the Hobbit Bathroom is much better and the shower is great (even though it's situated over the toilet!) In fact I've begun to like the cheap little guesthouse...you quickly get used to the queue for the lifts, the many sole traders, hidden sweat-shops and the strange smell in the corridors!!
Anyways, first off we went to meet Michelle's cousin Dean and his fella Michael at the train station, and all went over to visit Lantau Island. To get there we went on a cable car....which is
We made it to the Kowloon harbour, and walked down the Avenue of Stars, and then at 8pm Hong Kong has it's daily 'Symphony of Lights', which is a big light show on all the skyscrapers...fantastic views!
Day 3 (New Years Eve)
We made our way to the Peak Tram - which takes you to the highest point on Hong Kong Island....again fantastic views. A bit windy though, as you can see by Chelle's hot new hair do!!
So back to our 5 star luxury apartment to get ready to party!!!!! But before we started, Michelle employed me as her personal fitness trainer, and Bowney's Gym was set up...some hilarious sights in a room the size of a shoebox - squats with the backpacks, sit-ups, push-ups, and Michelle attempting to bench pressing me!! Ha ha!
We all met at 8pm and spent ages looking for somewhere to eat...and first went into a 'hotpot' restaurant...which after a while we found out they gave you a pot of soup and a choice of things like crocodile, pigs intestines, and other meats to cook yourself!! We made a sharp exit, and found some gypo Chinese with slightly bizarre waiters...nice meal though! Then hit the streets!!!
It was packed full of revellers, all trying to get to the Kowloon waterfront to see the fireworks! We pushed through the crowds, scaled a wall and finally got a spot on the front....however we were now stuck there and with my bladder the size of a peanut, never have I needed the loo so much!
The fireworks were good, but a little disappointing! But we'd bought a load of booze, and a bottle of Moet...to which Dean opened and nearly took someone out with the cork - very funny! We all went to a bar and sat outside and had an absolute blast. All in all, a fab new year with a great group of people!!
After nursing a slight hangover, we went on one of those open topped bus tours....sad, but I loved it...it was 24 degrees in the sun, but in the shade of the moving bus I was frozen! We went on the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour, ate in the most amazingly cheap Chinese fast food café, saw a world record breaking attempt on the longest Chinese dragon dance, oh and and I accidentally kicked an old man's walking stick and nearly took him out!! Felt so bad, but the streets were packed, so accidents are inevitable!!
We went back to that café for tea in fact...trying to save money, oh and I found a real gym...honestly!! All that shite food has been worked off now....ready to be filled back up again!!
Off to Vietnam tomorrow - we should arrive in Hanoi late afternoon...keep you posted!
