When we returned from our wonderful, but exhausting, hike in Wilson's Prom Saturday night, Glenna and Simon turned right around and went to the airport to pick up Kate and Jessie, her boyfriend.  Kate and I graduated with Glenna from Arcata High, so we are old friends but I had never met Jessie.  We enjoyed a wonderful french onion soup for dinner (thanks Bri!), but were almost passing out in our bowls!
The stream of friends and relatives had only just begun....  Glenna's mom Sarah, her brother Evan, her godmother and namesake Glenna and partner Dick, as well as her Dad Mark, new wife Karen and daughter Catherine all arrived within the next couple of days.  To avoid the crowding, we moved over to stay with Simon and Glenna's friends Doanna and Jeremy just down the street.  They are an extremely interesting couple who has traveled all over the world...including southeast Asia and Africa!  On Wednesday, we did an awesome rockclimbing/ hike trip up to the top of sugarloaf peak in the Cathedral Ranges.  It was a short climb but was pretty much straight up, with 360 degree views of the area at the top.  We were expecting to see lyre birds as per Glenna saying they were extremely common, but we only heard them.  There were probably a few too many of us to really see many animals.  We got to know Evan a little better, and enjoyed getting out of the city.
Thursday we all drove up to Bright...Our van was packed full with Kate and Jessie, Simon's old friend Sam, us two and Sadie, the Britanny Spanial.  We stopped on the way up at a fantastic winery where we tried tons of wines that we had never heard of.  I'm actually starting to understand why some people get really into wine, but I never will because most of them I don't really care for!!!  We also stopped at a cheese factory and tried too many goat cheeses.  We finally rolled into the Aspen Farm stay just outside of Bright after dark and had a barbie.  Bri whipped up some fabulous chili that won approval from Kiyoko-san the mother of Haruna and an excellent Japanese chef.  He was proud!!!   We celebrated a girls (hens) night Thursday with a fun crew....Kiyoko, Haruna, her daughter and Glenna's former exchange student, old friend of Simon's Sam, Kate and Mai, Arcata friends, Glenna's godmother Glenna, and spent most of our time playing with Sam's computer and taking scandalous photos of ourselves with IBook special effects....very silly.  And drinking champagne....We spent the next day relaxing and walking around the farm, as well as cooking a gigantic sushi feast with summer rolls and 3 kinds of Japanese salad.  Kiyoko is a great lady, she just speaks in Japanese until you guess what she means....very nice and high energy!  Some of the highlights of the night were meeting new people....Camille and Felix a couple who had just gotten engaged.  Camille was a very positive Yoga instructor who had just finished a course in India.  Charlotte, a girl from Ireland, Katy and Max (her dog) who live down the street from Simon and Glen, and Simon's relatives were also amoung the new arrivals.
The wedding ceremony was beautiful!  Evan played guitar and a bunch of friends did readings.  The day was beautiful and sunny and everyone was relaxed and happy to be surrounded by such nice people.  We had a barbie catered dinner and then gathered around the bonfire for a night of wine drinking and bush band music (other wise known as irish english folk music or contradancing!).  Fun was had by all, jumping and swinging around and only a little bit too much wine was drunk!  Glenna and Simon were looking extremely happy to be together and all in all a wonderful event!!!  Congratulations Glenna and Simon!!!  We love you!

but where's ken?
OK... You guys are having WAY too much fun! What an interestingly international experience you're having with all these eclectic people you're meeting! All I can think of is the grand value of education you're getting down there talking to folks from such different backgrounds and histories. And I know from like traveling, that people know stuff and lots can be learned from them! But, I gotta ask... What's this 'barbie' thing? Must be aussie lingo and I like your use of it but what does it mean???? Curious minds want to know!
All is well here in Humboldt. A little spring rain, a little spring sunshine, the cattle are lowing the rivers flowng... You know... Important stuff:)
Keep enjoying yourselves and your travels! And thank you for your blog! Sometimes when I'm reading, I imagine myself in your boots:)
Cheers and happy trails!
