As you may have noticed we are a little behind in updating the travel blog!!! The past few days we have been on the move trying to reach our ultimate destination, but we wanted to recap on what we have been up to.
We arrived in Budapest a day earlier than expected and after taking a relatively quick train ride and then walking about 2 km we made it to our hostel a little hot but all good.
The hostel was ok - you get what you pay for as they say!!! Although the showers were the best part - lots of pressure and seemingly endless hot water - the only real requirement we seem to have these days for a hostel... how the standards have changed.
We spent the next couple of days sightseeing as you do while being tourists... We managed to see The Parliament, The Castle and the Communist Statue Park (slightly over rated and a little tough to get to, but still glad to have seen it.
I had a few credit issues with the mobile phone. As it turned out when people rang me I was being charged as well as the caller. So after not being able to re credit myself in Slovakia it was nice to see a lot of Vodafone signs in Hungary. However, after finally working out what I needed to do to recharge we sat in the Vodafone shop for about 1/2 an hour almost at closing and brought a recharge card - once we had established with gestures and pointing what we were after. Did the voucher work - NO!!! So back into the shop to explain to a lady who spoke very good English that it wasn't working. She was less than impressed as the shop was to close in three minutes and I refused to leave without making the voucher work. In the end she gave me back my money which while I was glad to have the money back - still no credit. I eventually got onto UK Vodafone and was able to recharge using the credit card... Then about 2 hours later I received a message to say that the O/S recharge had been successful - got about 17 pound for free. Two phone calls from home later however - no credit again... the saga never ends.
Boris met a couple of Iranian lads in the hostel and was introduced to a new card game which they were very eager to teach to me as well and keen to play every night.
We also tried Hungarian Goulash - some of you may be aware that at home it was a specialty of my Mum's and as such was definitely on the cards while in Hugary. As it turned out though the Goulash we ordered was a soup... not exactly what we were expecting but with some bread a very hearty meal.
We think that is about it for now. So many countries it is hard to keep up what happened where...
Take Care till next time
