Met up with my ex-colleague, Alan at Orchard Road for a coffee and fag fix at Spinellis.. I have just realized how incredibly risky it is for smokers to spark up a fag .. you are restricted to certain areas when you need to light up, restaurants, bars and cafes are doing their bit by allocating smoking areas (some of which only consist of 2 tables and you are c0nfined to a little yellow box that is drawn around these tables !) you do the math.. 2 tables, 4 chairs per table and at least 20 smoking customers..I guess its a great way to discourage smoking, the hideous fag packets here are pretty gruesome with pictures of people with lung cancer and other smoking related diseases.. gross! There is also a hefty fine for having your fags on the table, your pack of fags should remain in your pocket or bag at all times .. they impose a fine of about $200 if you're caught!! Moving away from the topic of fags.. Alan then brought me to Marina Bay for an excellent steamboat buffet
MUST DO/MUST EAT: Steam boat buffet at Marina Bay
.. for only $12 ... fresh seafood, beef, pork, chicken, yakitori... they have every edible item available .. incredibly stuffed yet eager to see other parts of Singapore we then made our way to Clarke Quay .. a very commercialised night spot with 30 or so of Singapores finest restaurants, clubs and bars including Ministry of Sound all in one area! Decided to have a chilled night so Alan brought me to Hooters , renowned for their "well endowed" waitresses ... apparently theres a famous strip joint there which is ridiculously expensive to enter about a $200 door charge! After a couple of beers it was definitely time for bed so headed "home". That is the other bit I quite like about Singapore, I would have to say Singapore is rated one of the safest cities in the world.. everyone reassured me that at any time of that day, be it 2am or 2pm its fine to walk the streets alone.. and yes I actually believe them I was walking alone at about midnight last night and I survived, I didn't feel the least bit intimidated..
Day 3 in Lion City Today was a day to chill and plan the rest of my days in Singapore.. Jeff, Vivian and Little Joe brought me out for dinner at night Aaron brought me to his " Sanctuary" which is the edge of the Singapore reservoir, stunning view of Singapore city at night.. we had a couple (*bullshit*) of beers and chatted the night away, quite a number of people visit that stretch and you have a mix of yuppies, biker dudes and teens chilling by the side of the road.. after several dozen beers Aaron drove around Singapore for a bit and then it was time to hit the sack.. P.S Are we hammered?HELL YEAH!
Day 4 in Lion City I had lunch with Viv and Joe and then I went off to explore Singapore .. took the MRT to Clarke Quay to get the BUMBOAT for the city river tour, pretty cool.. saw some of the main tourist spots in Singapore and learnt quite a bit about Singapore history: What I saw:
The Fullerton hotel, originally a British Post office.. has been standing for the past century..
Tallest building in Singapore...OUB Bank
the famous Merlion, Singapores mascot...
the esplanade.. similar to Sydney opera house...
.. and with my trusty map I found my way to Fort Canning, recommended visit by Jane unfortunately Battle Box was closed just as I arrived so I intend to return to Fort Canning tomorrow.. I think it's an awesome park.. After Fort Canning needed a coffee fix so I ended up at Orchard Road.. took the MRT there..
I then headed back to my "home" had some dinner with Viv and Joe and went out for a couple of drinks with Larry and Sam.. Singapore is pretty awesome.. although I think Singaporeans and residents of Singapore should learn to chill out once in awhile
