Drovers Camp Museum

We had a couple of free camp stops along the way between Daly Waters and Camooweal. The day we arrived was an easy drive.  We had been told about this spot by another caravanner and we are so glad, as it wasn't marked, so a little known secret!

We had a little trouble finding our way in, and in the process I managed to scratch all down one side of the bus on a bush.  Damn! We eventually found a spot and parked up.  I can see why it's not marked it is so beautiful.  Everywhere we looked there were birds; Brolgas, Egrets, Ducks Grebe, Kites, Plovers, Cormorants, Shags, Ibis, Darters and Coots.  We even saw a group of 12 Brumbies one day.
We had real problems getting motivated to move on and stayed for 5 nights!
Camooweal is the first town in Qld after Three Ways and NT Border.  It is tiny!
We had also been told to go check out the Drovers Camp Museum, which we did. So interesting, and the guy that did the tour was amazing.  So if you ever drive over to Qld, make the time to stop in Camooweal and have a look.
Booty & Kenny had been bugging Peter to make a camp fire as they like to sit out under the stars, so Peter eventually obliged and he even made Damper for them.  Why does food cooked out in the open taste so much better? Booty & Kenny also had a great time climbing trees and generally doing things that boys like to do!
Finally we had to make the decision to move on and on the Sunday we prepared to break camp.  Housework needed to be done, and the bus needed a polish, so it was all hands on deck to get ship shape to ship out.  We had also been watching the storm clouds build up and our neighbours warned us that if it started to rain get out quick as the soil gets boggy there in super quick time. Guess who didn't sleep well as she was listening for tell tale rain drops on the roof?? Thankfully it passed us by. Phew!
