On the way home, I would be spending over 36 hours in airports and on planes before finally getting back to Cleveland. Even though it was 36 hours, it all took place on August 20th because I'm a time traveler. I woke up at 3:30am and tried to quietly shower and pack up my suitcase. The shuttle to the airport left at 4, and there were a bunch of Contiki people on there (me, Jo, Gilbert, Cathal, Lily, and Tiny). When we got to the airport, we found even more Contiki people. We ended up running into Chris, Pat, Laura, Chantal, Esra, Kay-Marie, Jenn, Richard, Morgan, Kerri, Jake, Emma... I'm not even sure if that's everyone!

My first flight was at 6:35, from Christchurch to Sydney. Jo, Jenn, Gilbert, and Cathal were all on the same flight. The flight lasted about 3 & 1/2 hours. When we got to Sydney, I hung out with Jo for a while since she had a seven hour layover.

My next flight was at 10am, from Sydney to L.A. While I was waiting to board, I ran into a couple of guys who were on my Contiki tour of Australia with me. That was a weird coincidence. Apparently they had just finished a second Contiki in New Zealand and were about to do a third in the U.S. Wow. The flight was about 13 & 1/2 hours, and I had a window seat. The two guys next to me both slept most of the way, so I couldn't really move. I watched a bunch of TV and movies and ate some pretty good ravioli. And I actually got to sleep a little more than I did on the way there, so that was nice.

My next flight was at 11:40am from L.A. to Dallas, which meant I had about five hours to kill in L.A. I wasn't very hungry, so I decided to wait to eat in Dallas since I liked their food so much. I sat and read and fell asleep, and then it was time to go. The flight was about 3 hours long.

My last flight was at 8pm from Dallas to Cleveland. In the Dallas airport, I had an Auntie Anne's pretzel and some KFC potato wedges. Then I finally got to board my last plane!!! The flight was only about 2 & 1/2 hours, but I was so exhausted that it felt longer. Especially since I knew it was the last one I'd have to sit through.

When I got to Cleveland, my parents and my grandma were waiting for me. We went to get my bag, but it turns out it got lost in Dallas. They delivered it to the house within about a day, though, so it was fine. It was nice to be back to driving on the right side of the road and eating real bacon, but I definitely missed New Zealand. If I were going back, I would probably only do the South Island this time. Wellington and the Bay of Islands were probably the only parts of the North Island that I really, really liked. The South Island was just soooo much prettier! I really loved New Zealand in general, and I can't wait to go back.
