While trying to avoid a herd of goats (who always seem to be in a constant state of confusion as to which side of the road they should be on), Thomas ran over one of them with his back wheel. We were right behind him and saw the whole thing. It is definitely not something I would like to remember. As soon as it happened, the kids who were herding the goats ran up to him demanding payment. He handed over 1000 Shilling note and sped off.

Besides that little piece of excitement, the drive today was pretty decent. At first, it was extremely dusty but then suddenly, green lush hills appeared out of nowhere. What a great sight, to see life!

After filling up on diesel and buying some supplies for lunch (bread and fruit) in Maralal, we continued north for another hour until the sun was just about to set.

Not wanting to drive in the dark, we were going to just drive off the road, out of sight from passing vehicles and set up camp. Luckily, we just so happened to spot a little wooden sign on the road up ahead with the word "Camping" and so we tried that track instead. It turns out it was a campsite that was still under construction but the men told us, in their limited English, that we could stay there free of charge.

There were about 5 or 6 guys, all wrapped up in Kenyan blankets with AK-47 rifles slung around their shoulders. Totally non-threatening though and extremely friendly, they even started our campfire for us.

We cooked up some pasta to go with our bbq'd lamb chops. It was extremely windy and cold up on the ridge but the view was really stunning. We wrapped ourselves in scarves and hats, and huddled close to the fire to keep warm. With no showers, electricity or running water (second night in a row, hmmmm... will this be a daily occurrence?), we devoured our dinner and Lindt chocolate dessert and climbed into bed.
