This particular beach party was the 20th Anniversary of Full Mooning on Ko Phangan and it promised to be an extremely large one
. More disturbingly, there was also word of a bomb attack, and the polis were everywhere with Navy boats just offshore and heaps of badly disguised troops (decked out in bermuda shorts, army boots and ear pieces!) on it. In the end, the night exceeded all expectations and was indeed an extravagnaza of hedonism and indulgence in all things bad. Around 40,000 folk came from every corner of the globe and danced the night away to mixed up beats. The moments that followed the Sun poking her eye over the horizon really were a bit special, and caused most of us to go even more bezerk! Although within a few hours, in the true Haad Rin stylee, there were comatose bodies lying limp in the sand, usually with their mates sticking straws up their arses and balancing beer bottles on their heads!! However, those with the stamina of Scotsmen were either shagging in the sea or dancing on the tables!!
Even though Thailand has become an overdeveloped tourist mecca, it still holds a few unparalleled trump cards that will draw you back forever more. As for the people I've met here - FUCKING TOP NIGHTS FOLKS! So tonight we're back in the Kokage of Banging, maybe for some Thai boxing. Tomorrow for visiting some poor convict in the Bangkok Hilton for much needed banter, pornography and fag deliveries. The day after that will hopefully find me in CAMBODIA, where i get to try out my new passport, and from the stories I've heard it's something for which I cannot wait.
A week prior to the moon waxing to it's state of complete fullness, the mass exodus from the rest of SE Asia begins, the island slowly becomes invaded by pissed-up young party animals, and the horizon pulsates to the distant beats in anticipation. Oor wee clan, which seems to have slowly built up over the last two and a half months, stayed above a quiet wee stretch of beach known as Thong Nai Pan in the north of the island away from all the dirty madness on Haad Rin. We rented what were quite possibly the nicest bungalows I've stayed in the last two years (yes it will be TWO FECKIN YEARS on the 7th May) Our bungalows were perched on the cliff face above this sweeping arc of white icing sugar. I could see the beach from my bed, it was very hard to leave yesterday :(
